I just watched a video by "butterflyartstudios" on YouTube (obviously) & she made an entire video stating on how AG hasn't had a black or Hispanic or darker skin colored GOTY. She asks why AG can't have another skin toned doll besides white for one year. She also states how lately AG is kind of turning into a Barbie doll company. (Not like the skinny waists or anything like that xD) but how Barbie dolls are like, white with blue eyes & blonde hair. AG has been making a lot of dolls with blue eyes & white skin...I mean just for one year, have a different colored doll besides white. Now don't get me wrong she explains she still LOVES AG but just for one year change. It's kinda funny how Kanani, Marisol & Sonali are the ONLY GOTYS with different skin tones? & also Sonali is the ONLY GOTY with the darkest skin? I wonder why AG makes GOTYS & JLY that are more light skinned. Now my personal opinion, I love each & every one of AG's dolls. They are all so unique. So what do you think?

I totally agree, and Sonali, being the darkest out of all of them wasn't even the spotlight doll, she was a best friend doll to Chrissa, who funnily enough had white skin and blue eyes.. :P fail AG
ReplyDeleteAG is a company just like any other one out there. They want to make money. They know what dolls sell and which ones don't. The most popular dolls from AG are apparently Kit, Julie and Caroline. If consumers purchase these dolls more than the others, then AG knows that these are the dolls that sell well and will continue to make dolls that they know will sell. They cannot afford to take risks especially in this economy. McKenna sold well this year because gymnastics was extremely popular this year because of the olympics. AG planned this accordingly. It wasn't a coincidence.
ReplyDeleteMy suggestion to you, if you want a black goty in the future, is to write to AG and let them know and also, purchase the black dolls available from AG already. Let other people know and there's a possibility in the future that they will create one.
I couldn't agree more they need to make more coloured dolls. Anonymous is right, all they want is money, and they make dolls that people will buy. SO if every single person on AGTube were to buy a Dark skinned doll, then maybe they would make the next GOTY a dark skinned doll because so many people would have bought a dark skinned doll and that would be considered popular. But I dunno, it's just a thought.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Anonymous and Mamam5dolls, American Girl just wants the money so they create the new dolls in which they think will be popular base on past purchases. Anonymous is right, American Girl cannot afford to take risk in this economy, each year they seem to raise the price of dolls $5! I mean $110 for a doll? I am okay with $105 for a doll, but for 5 more dollars, that's crazy.
ReplyDeleteIf we all want to make a change in the dolls which American Girl produces, I think we should all call American Girl like we did with the AG Challenge and suggest to them that we need more dark skinned dolls.
I remember right before I moved states, my mom came home and told me that in her College Social Work Class they were discussing how none of the Disney Princesses were dark skinned. Well my friend and I decided to each design a dark skinned princess and send it to Disney. Well what do you know, shortly after Disney created Tiana, a beautiful dark skinned princess.

DeleteI think your right! They should get more selections out their for us buyers!!! That would be a way to get money like you said! I've never seen Sonali before, though.. What GOTY was she? I think they should make more varitites!!!! Maybe chinese, hispanic, or darker skin like Sonali, Kanani, & Marisol. I wonder what 2014 will bring?...........
